Sure, it’s easy to drive fast on smooth wide-lane Interstate Highways, but what about when the roads are rough or maybe not even roads at all?
The high performance carmaker Maserati wants to sell more vehicles in China, Russia and South America. However, the roads in these places are rough and not accommodating to the automaker’s traditional forte – fast sport cars!
Maserati is building an exotic five passenger SUV/crossover that will handle rough roads/trails - the 2013 Maserati Kubang.
The exclusive SUV will be built in Detroit on the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee (this is part of the Chrysler/Fiat alliance - I know it gets complicated!).
The Kubang’s engine will be a revised 4.5-liter V8 from the Maserati Quattroporte. The mill’s output is expected to be about 500 horsepower. In addition, the transmission will be an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic with shifting on the steering wheel. Furthermore, there will be a start/stop feature to help improve the gas mileage.
On the inside this super SUV will have an elegant interior that includes full leather and the latest information/entertainment technology.
Maserati’s promotion for the Kubang includes “Driving Pleasure, Performance in the Absolute, The Competitive Spirit, Our Distinguishing Mark, Our Road is Ongoing, Directed Towards Excellence, and Maserati Excellence Through Passion.”
In other words, this Maserati will take its occupants over any road fast and in luxury!
